THO’s Statement On Visa Crisis And The U.S. – Turkey Relations
We urge the U.S. and Turkish officials to reassess their differences through a new platform for diplomatic dialogue

Turkish Heritage Organization (THO) is extremely concerned with abruptly announced travel restrictions by both governments and encourages both sides to exercise prudence. As longtime critical allies, regardless of the level of challenges, both governments should always maintain and engage in constructive discussion and diplomatic dialogue.

The U.S. – Turkey bilateral relationship has been going through some difficult periods. There are disagreements over several critical issues which continue to strain and undermine the relations. While it is natural to have differences among allies on such critical issues, both sides should refrain from escalating the tension to an unusual level. It is important to remember that abrupt announcement of visitor visa cancellations by both governments would impact ordinary people who contribute and reinforce the enduring links between the people of both countries through economic, academic, social, and cultural relations.

We urge the U.S. and Turkish officials to reassess their differences through a new platform for diplomatic dialogue that is independent of existing differences and challenges. THO believes that it is extremely important to embrace and build on shared values and relationships, especially at such critical times when both sides need greater not lesser cooperation to resolve their differences.
