On Wednesday, September 30, THO hosted a webinar on Rising Tensions and the Future of the Eastern Mediterranean, featuring Yusuf Alabarda, Georgen N. Tzogopoulos and Dr. Ed Erickson. The conversation was moderated by THO´s Executive Director, Savannah Lane.
THO had the honor to host Yusuf Alabarda, Georgen N. Tzogopoulos and Dr. Ed Erickson for this important discussion on the current tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean. Yusuf Alabarda argued that the crisis does not only have to do with hydrocarbon questions but also strategic and geopolitical issues. On the other hand, Georgen N. Tzogopoulos highlighted public opinion concerns on this matter and how people of both countries are in favor of a diplomatic solution. Dr. Ed Erickson stated that NATO can not solve these countries' issues, as they have to seek the diplomatic solution themselves, but the alliance can add to the dialogue.
This conversation aimed to address the current crisis in the Eastern Mediterranean. All parties agreed that dialogue leads to mutual understandings and peaceful resolutions. And argued that both Turkey and Greece agree on deconfliction and de escalation, and that both countries have to win in dialogue and learning from past mistakes.
