Organized by THO, the private roundtable focused on greater cooperation and capacity building
On December 21, 2017, THO organized a private roundtable discussion with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu in New York City exclusively for the Syrian American Council (SAC) and Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS). Foreign Minister Cavusoglu, who was in New York for the UN General Assembly’s resolution on the Jerusalem decision, listened to SAC and SAMS Board Members’ concerns and recommendations on a range of issues. Minister Cavusoglu also shared Turkey’s short and long-term policy objectives.
Executive Director Yenal Kucuker introduced the delegation and informed Minister Cavusoglu about THO’s ongoing cooperation with SAC and SAMS, particularly on humanitarian aid-related issues and activities. Led by SAC Vice President Zaki Lababidi, MD, the delegation expressed their gratitude to Minister Cavusoglu for his and his administration’s sincere commitment to the Syrian people. The delegation mainly focused on medical capacity building within Syria through Turkey and indicated that they are ready to take on more responsibility.
Foreign Minister Cavusoglu thanked the delegation and THO for their valuable work and highlighted Turkey’s firm commitment to protecting Syrians and the future of Syria. Minister Cavusoglu assured the delegation that Turkey will continue to play a pivotal diplomatic and political role in pushing for greater involvement and compromise from all sides.
