The Impact of 2020 US Presidential Elections

05 Nov 20

On Thursday, November 5, 2020 the Turkish Heritage Organization hosted a webinar on The Impact of 2020 US Presidential Elections, featuring prof. Michael Reynolds, prof. Dr. Oktay Tanrisever and prof. Charles Kupchan. The conversation was moderated by Savannah Lane, THO´s executive director.

THO was honored to host prof. Michael Reynolds, prof. Dr. Oktay Tanrisever and prof. Charles Kupchan for this discussion on U.S- Turkey relations after the U.S. presidential elections. Throughout the conversation, the panelists argued president Trump and president Erdogan have had a good relationship, nevertheless, there is not a sustained dialogue between both countries. On the other hand, a Biden administration could add to that dialogue. Moreover, if Biden is the new president, it could bring new life into NATO. The panelists broadly agreed that Turkey’s foreign policy commitments have become overextended, and that managing this will be an issue in the next four years.

Finally, the panelists agreed that a new administration might open a new chapter on U.S.- Turkey relations and new geopolitical proposals to the Middle East region.
