On September 2, 2021, the Turkish Heritage Organization, hosted a virtual panel; The U.S. Left Afghanistan, What Now? The panel was hosted by Lyla Kohistany, Afghan-American, veteran, nonresident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council and President and Co-Founder of PROMOTE. The panel featured an esteemed group of experts including: Ramin Asgard, Principal and Founder, Asgard Law, Asgard Consulting, Former U.S. Foreign Service and POLAD US CENTCOM; Sher Mohammad Karimi, Former Chief of General Staff Afghan National Army, Minister Gul Masqood Sabit, Former Deputy Finance Minister Afghanistan; and Ambassador Alper Coskun, Former Director General of International Security Affairs, MFA. 

Throughout the event, our panelists discussed the details and latest developments of the U.S. evacuation efforts from Afghanistan and the future for not only the region, but the changes in the international community stemming from this shift. In hearing from our expert panelists, General Karimi shared the details of the role of the U.S and Afghan armies and the shift in the takeover of the Taliban. Minister Sabit shared the role of the financial catastrophe and the impact this will have on not only the Afghanistan government, but the Afghani people as well. Further, comments from Ambassador Coskun demonstrated efforts that the international community and the NATO alliance will need to take in order to ensure that power imbalances, humanitarian crises and potential terror threats are not further exacerbated.
