THO HOSTS OFF-THE-RECORD ROUNDTABLE ON PROSPECTS FOR U.S.-TURKEY RELATIONS IN 2018

On Thursday, February 15, THO hosted an off-the-record roundtable on “Prospects for U.S.-Turkey Relations in 2018,” the same day of a critical meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in Ankara following heightened tensions between the two NATO allies over threats of military engagement in northern Syria.

The discussion featured insights from Ambassador James Jeffrey (former U.S. Ambassador to Turkey), Jennifer Miel (Executive Director of the U.S.-Turkey Business Council at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce) and former Congressman Edward Whitfield (U.S. Representative for Kentucky, 1995-2016). The discussion was moderated by Audrey Williams (THO Program Officer) and attended by representatives of academia, think tanks, NGOs, and government agencies.

The roundtable was held following the January launch of THO’s latest report, “A Review of U.S.-Turkey Relations in 2017 and Prospects for 2018.” Read the report here.
