On Tuesday, July 28, 2020, THO hosted a webinar on “Turkey’s National Security Strategy and Latest Security Developments in the Region”. Featuring the Turkish Defense Minister, H.E Hulusi Akar, News Presenter at TRT World office in London, Ayca Aydogdu, and President of the Turkish Heritage Organization, Ali Cinar.
THO was honored to welcome this high-ranking member of the Turkish government, for a timely and necessary discussion on Turkey’s national security strategy, and the latest regional security developments. Minister Akar started with Opening remarks about Turkey’s contemporary security matters, including the Syrian conflict, Libya, terrorist organizations, the Azerbaijan-Armenian conflict in the Karabakh region, energy interests in the Mediterranean, and multilateral alliances.
This conversation aims to understand and analyze the current state of Turkey’s national security strategy, through the perspective of one of the highest-ranking officials of the Turkish government, Minister Akar. Our moderators questioned security-related issues concerning Turkey's position in the Syrian conflict, Turkey’s role in Libya, the state of the Turkish-US bilateral relationship, the effects of the 2016 coup attempt on Turkey’s domestic and foreign affairs, Turkey’s perception of NATO, the European Union and China, and Turkey’s defense projections in a post-COVID-19 era.
