Turkish Heritage Organization (THO) statement on the false accusation of offering honorarium to attend roundtable event:
As an organization working on improving Turkish-American relations by hosting high-level speakers and panels in Washington, D.C., THO has been faced with false accusations.
In an email shared on Twitter, an individual claimed that an honorarium would be provided for individuals to attend a THO organized panel with the Turkish Minster of Justice. We’d like to make it clear THO was not aware of this invitation and certainly would not support such an invitation. THO’s invitation to this private roundtable was sent to a number of prominent D.C. based individuals, and that invitation below is the only invitation used by THO staff to invite to the roundtable.
THO has attained a strong and respected reputation in the U.S. and D.C. community and is in no need of making such offers to guests. Diverse views and opinions at our events provide a unique and open space to discuss and debate U.S.-Turkish relations. Our goal is to provide a balanced forum for dialogue between influencers and decision makers from the U.S. and Turkey in hopes of bringing the two sides closer together.
THO condemns this smear campaign by individuals whose goal is to destroy and weaken U.S.-Turkey relations for a number of different personal and ideological reasons. Nevertheless, THO’s work continues, because we truly believe our work has made a difference and it will continue to do so.
