Spring 2017 Communications and Editorial Internship

Term: Three months starting in March 2017

Application deadline: February 28, 2017 at 11:59 PM

Turkish Heritage Organization (THO) is seeking a part-time, paid communications and editorial intern for its Washington office.

THO is a young nonprofit organization that was established to promote discussion and dialogue around Turkey’s role in the international community and to explore the importance of the U.S.-Turkey bilateral relationship across six issue areas: security, humanitarian aid, economy, energy, education, and technology. Through its portfolio of events, programs, and publications, THO seeks to expand channels of communication and bridge the gap between government officials, opinion leaders, and subject-matter experts.

In supporting the work of a young, dynamic organization, the communications and editorial intern will acquire in-depth experience with the editorial and communications processes of a nonprofit. The intern will also have the opportunity to contribute original writing and analysis to THO and to meet with government officials and experts through THO’s activities and events.

Intern responsibilities

  • Conduct research for written materials;
  • Draft written materials, including op-eds, analyses, website content, and event materials;
  • Contribute original writing and analysis;
  • Help THO develop and execute its communications strategy, including conducting communications research and helping place articles in news outlets;
  • Provide editorial support for THO’s written products;
  • Help compile and draft THO’s weekly newsletters;
  • Provide additional editorial and programmatic support as needed.
Qualifications

Successful applicants are generally undergraduate students, graduate students, or recent graduates with a demonstrated interest in international relations and political science. Applicants must have strong writing and editing skills, including an eye for detail, style, and organization. Applicants with previous editing, communications, and/or journalism experience are encouraged to apply.

A familiarity with and interest in U.S.-Turkey relations is desired, but not required. Please note that applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.
